With The Hereward League returning in 2019, what better way to promote the competition than with a winters evening of racing on the Wattbikes.
So in keeping with this Fenland Clarion will host the evening with our friends from Bourne Wheelers, Peterborough C.C. and Spalding C.C. The aim is for each club to enter a team of five riders to compete over a series of short races in a friendly competitive environment on Monday 27th November at Brookside Church on Gunthorpe Road PE4 7TG.
This will start at 7.00 and we'll be finished by 9.00.
The format will be teams of five riders, ideally of mixed ability, and if you want to ride for Fenland please let Malc know ASAP. Each rider will get at least 3 races with team and handicap events. The bikes take spd and Look Keo cleats, although trainers are fine and will be required as well anyway. The races will vary from around 500 metres to one mile. Entry will be per team at £25 to cover our venue costs and the odd prize.
Rollers and turbos are welcome if riders want to have the chance to do any sort of warm up.
Spectators are very welcome and tea & coffee will be available, so if you don't fancy riding you can always come down, socialise with your clubmates, and cheer your team to victory, or otherwise with club colours to be encouraged.
It's getting closer to our presentation night on Saturday 24th November, with tickets still available, and the committee would like to encourage members to nominate their choice for club person of the year.
Ideally nominations would be accompanied with your reasons for choosing this person, as each person may have very different reasons for making their choice.
I would like to thank all of you who have already bought tickets for this years presentation night, sales are up on last year already, although of course I'd still like to sell a few more tickets and make it a really good evening.
We will be having a raffle during the evening and I'm asking for any of you who might be willing to donate prizes to let me know please, and if your work is likely to be able to offer a suitable prize please ask on our behalf.
Please note that the clubs photography competition will also be judged and trophy awarded at this years club presentation night. As this wasn't awarded last year all photos since November 2016 will be eligible. Please send your entries via a digital file to me at the e-mail below, or if you'd prefer an A4 print by Saturday 17th November.
This year’s club presentation night tickets are now on sale.
I will have them on club runs and our Friday evening sessions, although if neither of these are convenient please just let me know.

So please support this event and make it a successful club social night.
It was a bracing morning as the riders gathered at the foot of the first of two hill climbs taken on in this years competition.
The event is promoted in accordance with Peterborough Cycling Club and attracted a good crowd of supporters on both hills. They were certainly looking for suffering riders on the first climb from Ketton to Collyweston, gathering on the left hand bend where the gradient pitches up to over 15%.
Thankfully the sun was out despite the cold and the heavy rain of the previous afternoon had abaited.
The times were really competitive and it ended up as a closely fought competition.
Massive contratulations to all the riders and thanks to those who made the event possible.
We now have the Wattbikes in use and will be having another indoor cycling night on Monday 29th October at Brookside Church on Gunthorpe Road PE4 7TG. This will be a "come & try it" evening where you can use the bikes, or just watch, to discover how beneficial they can be, so whether you want to try a race, check your pedalling technique or use the Wattbike app there will be something for you. The fun start at 7.00 and we'll be finished by 9.00. Spectators are very welcome and tea & coffee will be available, so if you dont fancy riding you can always come down and socialise with your clubmates. If you do want to ride preference will be given to those who let Malc know in advance to help us with the numbers. Although there maybe spaces on the night subject to availability. Its all totally free and we'd appreciate your feedback to help us determine how best to use these bikes through the winter months.
Please note that you are also welcome to bring your rollers along and we may include a roller time trial if there is sufficient interest, perhaps a few miles against the Wattbikers?
This Friday we will be having a cycling sale at the Athletics Track on
Bishops Road from 6.30 - 7.30. So if you have anything you'd like to
sell, or just pass on for someone to use, please bring it along, or you
might want to buy a few bits from whatever else your fellow clubmates
bring along. Whatever it is, cycling related, you are welcome to bring
it along, so clothing, wheels or complete bikes.
Tea & coffee will be on the go, and its all for free, so if you're out
for a ride you could always drop in.
Our great new kit lady Kerry will also be there with the range of youths club kit
to try if any of you would like to ride in club colours.Hopefully see you on Friday, and any questions please just let me know.Malc
BBC has released its post Vuelta podcast and there is a fair amount of interest for Clarionista's with the Chairman of the Bury Clarion, first club of the Yates Twins interviewed.
You can get directly to the episode to listen online here. Or just search it in your favourite podcast app (such as Apple podcasts, Spreaker, Castbox).
To aid the celebrations why not invest in a National Clarion jersey to go with your Fenland kit.
Stocks are still available and you can contact Ian Clarke here to enquire.
