The youth section formed in 2010 and was initially based at Werrington sports centre, until October 2012 when we moved to The Embankment Athletic track on Bishops road. The main aim is to have fun on our bikes, but in a structured manner. For some it’s about improving confidence, while others enjoy the challenge of learning new skills or perhaps looking to get into competitive events.20140404 Friday group web The mainstay of our youth section is our regular evening coached sessions held at The Embankment Athletic track on Bishops Road PE1 5BW from 6.30 – 7.30 on the first and third Friday each month. These sessions are organised by our clubs British cycling qualified coaches, Marco Cipriani, Emma Emerton, Malc Jacklin and David Robinson. These sessions are aimed at youngsters from age 7 and upwards, although we are also happy to welcome younger riders if their level of concentration is sufficient for the one hour sessions.

These sessions aim to improve all riders skills and confidence on their bike with a variety of structured activities and games, while offering opportunities to take part in competitive events should they choose to. We use both the athletic track, for road skills and the surrounding grassed areas, for off road skills.

The sessions are all year round, with the excellent floodlights and warm pavilion enabling us to continue through those dark winter months. Each session costs £5 which is reduced to £4 if you choose to join the club for £10 per year, and you will need to complete a parent consent form.

We also like to include the rest of the family, so we also organise family rides at various venues and these are traffic free wherever possible.

If the above sounds of interest to you then please contact us and we would like to welcome you to come and try what we do. The aim is to make things fun and enjoyable while still developing riders in a responsible environment.

We have a growing selection of bikes that can be borrowed for our sessions and even taken to some events where a specific type of bike maybe helpful. Our aim is to keep these bikes in use, so please help us to look after them and please let us know if there is a bike you would like to try, or if you just want some advice on buying your next bike. Helmets must be worn at all of our sessions however if you don’t yet have one or if you forget your own, we can usually lend you one. Currently there is no charge for any loan equipment, a policy which we hope to continue, however we hope you understand we may have to include a small charge if the need arises.

Club jerseys are available to borrow for events, or of course you can buy your own if you would prefer.

IMG 4121 We follow the British Cycling Go Ride scheme. British cycling is the internationally recognised governing body for cycling in the UK. Go Ride is their development programme for young people. The programme provides a fun and safe way to introduce young riders to the world of cycle sport and provides a platform to improve bike handling skills. We aim to encourage the young people to sample the various cycle sport disciplines and start enjoying one of the fastest growing sports in the UK today. For those who are already involved and want to move forwards, Go Ride has it covered with the new Go Ride Racing competition programme.

We are generally a happy bunch on our bikes, although we don't always have time to smile.
