Bluebell week 4

Brrrrr.... It was a cold and damp evening as the riders gathered at the bottom of the climb to Ufford for the second attempt at the out and back course to Marholm.
Despite the conditions, there were a number of good times and well done to all who braved the weather to ride.
...anyone remember the warm summer of last year?? !!

Junior race night this Friday
This Friday 10th May we will be holding another of our youth racenights, this time its with a Cyclocross format, so we will be on the grass and every rider will get at least two races. These will still suit ALL of our youth riders, but with the added attraction of some riders from other clubs joining us for a few races, making it ideal entry level racing, and suitable for getting started with competitive events. Each event will be in age groups, so even our youngest will be able to take part, and the oldest will riders will be under 16 age group (racing seperately to the younger ones)
Please note that if any of you would like to borrow a club bike, please help us by being there by 6.15
Entry will be £4 on the day from 6.00pm with races to start at 6.30 with prizes for the series to be awarded and will be all done by 8:30. Hopefully our youngsters will all want to try these events, they seem to have a competitve streak even when not racing, so it should make a nice change to our usual format.
We could do with a few helpers on the night, so if you are able to help please let me know, preferably in advance.
Riders, the more the merrier for good racing. All youth riders welcome.
Cakes, snacks or nibbles always very welcome
Refreshments - ideally 2 - 3 to help out with them
Signing on - two people required
Timekeepers - three people required
Demo rider to lead the riders round the course
Helpers for setting up, could do with a couple of helpers who could ideally get there early
The details are on the British Cycling website, but as its entry on the night things are not too different to normal.

This will be at our usual venue The Embankment Athletic Track, Bishops Road, PE1 5BW.
**There will also be a two event series on 12th July & 9th August, so please put these dates in your diaries and share with anyone who maybe interested**
Bluebell3 Come and Try it evening.

The first wet evening of the season saw the first race on the Marholm course. There were a number of good times and positive rides and we hope to see many of the riders who joined us back during the season.
Junior cycling tonight at the Embankment
Just a reminder that we will be at the Embankment Athletic Track once again tomorrow evening from 6:30 - 7:30. There will be two groups, with both on the grass. One will be challenging your range of cycling skills, while the other will be targeting the forthcoming grasstrack events, and suitable for both fixed and freewheel bikes.
Hope to see you there
Officiating Rota
Please find attached the first version of the Fenland Clarion Officiating Rota 2019.
Obviously I don’t know what everyone is up to so if I’ve got you down for something you can’t do please endeavour to find someone to swap with and let me know and if that doesn’t work let me know. Please remember though that we, along with other cycling clubs, cannot run time trials and races without everyone taking their turn to help out.
Creating the rota is a dark art and generally it’s based on what you rode in the previous season – so the more you raced the more times I’ve pencilled you in.

Come and Try it - time trial this week

(May 1st 7pm start) the Fenland Clarion are holding a Come & Try It Time Trial ahead of our weekly Bluebell 10 mile event.
If you are a novice or newbie and fancy having a go at time trialling this is an ideal opportunity. The whole evening will be road bikes only, so you don't need to worry about having a special bike.
WHAT IS A TIME TRIAL?
Riders will be started at one minute intervals and ride alone (no taking pace from riders catching you) over the course. The winner will be the rider with the fastest time for the distance. It couldn't be more simple. The course will be marshalled and signposted.
Entries on the day (message us to say you might be coming would be a help) Please arrive 6.15-6.30pm to register. Entry Fee: £5.00 Organised under Cycling Time Trials Rules and Regulations.

Massive thanks as always to Paul Lilley for collating.
Of course this week I am going to be hot on publishing this :) !!!
Week 2 Bluebell Results
The warmth and sunny weather of week 1 was a distant memory as threatening clouds and a cold wind lashed the course last night.
Considering the blustery nature of the weather the times held up against last week with many great performances and improvements.
Thanks as always to the timers and marshalls for making this event run so well.

Week 1 2019 Bluebell Results
It was a nice warm evening after some pretty icy winds recently. The prevailing breeze was a rare South Easterly which blew the riders out whilst giving them a gusty ride back from Ufford.
Lots of great times and real improvements over previous performances, massive congratulations to all who rode and thanks to all the officials who made it happen.
