Weekend Wattbike action from 02nd Feb

There was much pain and suffering for the Clarion Wattbike session on Saturday morning. With freezing temperatures outside the club used the new Collyweston Heritage Centre near the top of the iconic climb.

There were riders from Yaxley Rides who joined in the action and all agreed there would be more sessions going forward.

Race night this coming Friday 8th February

This Friday 8th February we will be holding another of our racenights, this time with a cyclocross format, so we will be on the grass and every rider will get three races. These will still suit ALL of our youth riders, but with the added attraction of some riders from other clubs joining us for a few races, making it ideal entry level racing, and suitable for getting started with competitive events. Each event will be in age groups, so even our youngest will be able to take part, and the oldest will riders will be under 16 age group (racing seperately to the younger ones)
Entry will be £4 on the day from 6.00pm with races to start at 6.30 and finish around 8.00. Hopefully our youngsters will all want to try these events, they seem to have a competitve streak even when not racing, so it should make a nice change to our usual format.
We could do with a few helpers on the night, so if you are able to help please let me know, preferably in advance.
  • Riders, the more the merrier for good racing. All youth riders welcome.
  • Cakes, if you can bring one along please do, and ideally let me know beforehand
  • Refreshments - two to help out with them
  • Signing on - two people required
  • Timekeepers - three people required
  • Demo rider to show the riders round the course
  • Helpers for setting up, could do with a couple of helpers who could ideally get there early
The details are on the British Cycling website, but as its entry on the night things are not too different to normal.
This will be at our usual venue The Embankment Athletic Track, Bishops Road, PE1 5BW.

This will be part of a four event series with three other evenings of fun on 8th March, 12th April & 10th May when we will award the prizes.

Frosty Friday to start February

Just to remind you that we will be at the Embankment Athletic Track as usual this Friday ready to ride at 6:30 until 7:30 and we will be on the grass this week.

Please ensure the youngsters are all suitably dressed for the cold weather, if we work them hard enough to get too warm they can take a layer off if needed, better that than getting very cold. Remember there's always hot drinks available inside.

Please park in the Regional Pool car park for free from 6:00 and if you'd like to borrow a bike please aim to be there by 6:15.

Wattbike TTT 2nd Feb

Wattbike Team Time Trial 50 mile (10 mile x 5) Brand New Format For Wattbikes

Saturday 2nd February at 10:00.  Collyweston Heritage Centre, Main Road, Collyweston PE9 3PQ

A very different format with the club Wattbikes for this event, with a new venue and it would be great to get at least one of our own teams taking part. The format is an inter club event in teams of 5. Each rider will complete 10 miles giving each team of 5 a combined 50 miles. The first rider from each team will ride their 10 miles starting at 10:00 and then after a couple of minutes break to adjust the bikes for the next rider, the second 10 miles will be completed with all teams starting each 10 miles simultaneously, and so on through the team. Note if your team is a rider short then one rider may ride twice or you could borrow a rider from another team, or if you have extra riders why not let them fill in for another team so everyone gets a ride?
This link shows a recent event to give you an idea of how it works, https://www.facebook.com/kate.jacklin.5/posts/10214266001464132

Ian Todd is arranging our next youth hostelling weekend.
Youlgreave YHA in the Peak District currently has beds available for the 2 nights of 31 May and 1June.
There will be hard rides and easier rides on the Friday pm (if you can get up for then), all day Saturday and shorter Sunday rides. The walking is also super in the Peak District. All welcome and riding a bike isn’t mandatory!
Accommodation is in separate male and female dormitories with all bedding provided (bring your own towels).
Cost each for 2 nights Bed Breakfast & Evening Meal is £76 if we pay upfront as a group booking.
If you wish to go, please confirm directly with Ian Todd at  by next Wednesday 30th January and you will need to pay him the full £76 each so that he can make the booking before bed availability might become an issue. Ian will confirm payment details when you confirm.
We already have 11 confirmed as wishing to go but please re-confirm to Ian T that you still wish to go, on the basis outlined above.

Ride choice this coming Friday 25th January

This Friday there is a choice of two very different cycling activities to enjoy.

There will be a family ride of around one hour starting at 6:30 from the track and parents are very welcome to join us.

Please note lights are required along with appropriate clothing, and ideally the riders will have a spare tube. The group will ride at a speed to suit the whole group and the ride should finish around 7:30 with the option to then get a hot drink and support the Wattbike riders who will be taking part in some races until around 8:15.

We have a good selection of riders for the Wattbikes who will start promptly at 6:30, and where the format will be teams of parents v. youths. If anyone else still wants to ride in this please let me know and i'll make sure we can fit you all in.

Muddy Monsters a big success

The 19th January saw the FCCC round of the Muddy Monsters series which was held at the Peterborough Embankment track.

The club would like to place on record its thanks to all involved in making this event and the series a success.
