Message from Racing Secretary - re remaining Club 10s

BLUEBELL 10 COURSE - ROADWORKS

I've been corresponding with Martin Brooker who looks after works on Peterborough Highways and he assures me that there are no plans for any further road works/surface dressing and both the Bainton-Bretton and Bluebell Circuit courses will be unaffected between now and the end of the season. So you can all hold your breath!

Cheers
Steve

Derby update

If there is sufficient interest we can book the track again at Derby. There are two possible dates, and I need to know the level of interest for each of them. If there is sufficient interest then I'll confirm the bookings early next week.

Also as the August date is immediately after the bank holiday weekend, is there any interest in having the bank holiday weekend in Derbyshire either camping or in a youth hostel, and then finish the weekend with a visit to the track?

Tuesday 27th August 15:00 - 17:30

Monday 21st OR Tuesday 22nd October 13:00 - 16:00 (should be half term, please check)

Price: Children £25, adults £30 plus bike/shoe hire for adults. Note i'm awaiting confirmation of bike/shoe hire cost.

We need 25 riders to confirm the bookings.

Friday action at the track

This Friday we will once again be at the Athletics Track on Bishops Road for another coached session. This week we are heading back onto the grass, including grasstrack as there are plenty of these events to choose from in the next few weeks (plenty on the club website http://www.fenlandclarion.co.uk/site/index.php/youth/youth-latest-news). We will be using both fixed and free wheel bikes, so an ideal opportunity to try a fixed wheeled bike if you haven't done so already.

Also the fifth and final round of the Lincolnshire Circuit races on Saturday. https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/204472/Lincolnshire-Circuit-Racing-League-Round-5

We also have three youth riders taking part in the National youth time trial qualifier over near Sawtry on Saturday afternoon, so good luck to them.

Remember we are hosting another racenight next Friday 12th and it is suitable for ALL of our youth riders.

Fenland Clarion are Hereward League Champions 2019

Hereward Trophy

It was a fabulous evening to be a Clarionista as the Fenland team came home with the Hereward League shield. Trailing by a single point going into the final event at Bourne the team was able to turn that around and win.

Steve Clarke told us...

It was a good night for the Clarion. We won the Hereward League. One point behind going into the final round tonight and we smashed it. Great rides all round, everyone scored points that helped us beat tonight’s hosts Bourne Wheelers, into second spot in the team series.
Our Ladies and Veterans were fantastic, with Melanie Evans winning the Women’s series, with Lindsay Clarke and Tonya Smith 2nd and 3rd. In the Vets, Simon Pitchford was the winner, with Phil Merritt and Chris Shaw 2nd and 3rd equal with Phil Jones (who’s First Claim Peterborough CC)
Some good rides by our members, check out the results here.

Youth ride this evening to replace track session

As we can't have the athletics track this week, there will be a family ride to the Millennium Bridge, and back via Stanground. We will set off from outside the athletics track at 6:30 and the ride should take around an hour, with parents most welcome to join us.

All types of cycle will be fine on the mainly good path, although it gets a little bumpy in places behind Flag Fen where it's starting to break up. Approx. 6 miles with only a very short section of quiet road.

Grasstrack postponed this weekend

Just to confirm that Sundays opening round of the Go Green grasstrack series has unfortunately been called off due to a lack of race officials.
It is possible it maybe re-arranged, although this is yet to be confirmed.

Ongoing Youth Dates

Just to make you aware of the dates already confirmed for the next few months so you can get them in your diaries. The Fridays will continue on the FIRST & THIRD Friday each month, with two exceptions. On19th July we are not able to book the track, so no coached session, although we may choose to arrange a ride nearer the time. In December we will have our last evening, and Xmas party on 13th December as it seems likely that many of you maybe busy on 20th, although again we may arrange a ride nearer the time if there's sufficient interest.

We will also be holding a summer series of two race evenings on 12 July & 9 August. This will be followed by our Autumn series of 3 events on 13 September, 11 October & 8 November. So please put the dates in your diaries and share with anyone who maybe interested.

I'd also like to confirm that the club arranged youth activities, including Fridays, are on the website calendar.

For a range of events arranged by other clubs but likely to interest our riders, please see the youths latest news page.

If you are aware of other suitable events, please let me know and i'll add them to the list.
As always if you are unsure please just ask.

Close finish to the Classic

2019 Classic

20 seconds was the total margin of victory for Steve Maile over Simon Pitchford at the end of a rapid edition of the Helpston Classic.

There were 17 riders who took the line with a couple of punctures taking riders out of the race.

There was a gap in the recent weather we had been enduring and despite some heavy showers around the area all riders started and finished in the dry. There was a bit of breeze across the course but nothing to make any direction more favourable than another.

Congratulations to all the riders and massive thanks to all who made sure we had a race to ride.
