British Cycling update
Given the ongoing uncertainty around the Coronavirus/COVID19 outbreak, and the developing Government advice and guidance, British Cycling has taken the decision to extend its current suspension on sanctioned cycling activities to 30 June.
With all Government guidance pointing towards a period during which the nation is being urged to come together to fight the spread of the virus, and the unprecedented burden currently on our emergency and public services, we felt that this is the most responsible – and only – course of action we could take at this moment.
We are acutely aware of the impact that this situation has had on individuals, communities and businesses within cycling and beyond. We’d like to take this opportunity to reinforce that, while we share in the disappointment of those affected by this extended suspension, we will do absolutely everything within our power to ensure that cycling can return with strength and as soon as possible.
This suspension period will include the dates originally set for several traditional milestones of the competitive cycling calendar. As with the vast majority of sports – while our primary focus will always be health and wellbeing – we will be exploring all options regarding the fulfilment of the racing calendar once sporting events can recommence.
Our recommendation to our clubs remains that no organised activity (including rides, training, coaching, events) should take place during this period, in line with government advice on social gatherings and non-essential travel.
However, riding a bike is a great way to aid your physical and mental health, provided that guidance on social distancing is followed. British Cycling would urge all cyclists to only ride on routes you know well, that are close to home and that are well within your ability level - this is a time for calm recreation, not for challenging yourself.
Now, more than ever, we must ride our bikes responsibly - that means only going out on our own, or with people we live with, and keeping two metres apart from anyone we meet, stopping and waiting for people to pass when necessary. We're doing this to protect ourselves and others, and to make it safe for everyone to ride.
If the cycling community continues to behave responsibly then we all hope to keep the roads and trails open for use, so that we can all manage our health during the coming weeks and months.

Fenland Clarion Club Time Trials
In light of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis and the following Statement from the CTT, we have no alternative but to cancel/postpone all Fenland Clarion Club Time Trials for the foreseeable future (to 31st May at least). The club will continue to monitor the situation and hopefully, we will be able to resume racing before too long.In light of the government advice now given, Cycling Time Trials (CTT) has taken the decision to suspend all CTT events, (this includes all Type A and Type B events), with immediate effect up to and including Sunday 31 May 2020.
The decision will be subject to continued review and has been taken in the interests of organisers, competitors, all those who volunteer their time to make the events “work”, supporters and in the interests of the time trialling community as a whole.
Where possible, all are encouraged to maintain their own personal fitness and keep active during this time, while following government guidelines about safe distance and safe exercise environments.
CTT will continue to review and monitor government advice and will provide detailed updates in the coming weeks.
Social distancing and advice
Social distancing measures (as defined by Public Health England as spending more than 15 minutes and within a 2-metre distance talking to someone) are now advised not only for those who test positive or have symptoms, but in day to day life. The government is advising anyone with a “new, continuous” cough or high temperature and those they live with that they need to self-isolate to help prevent the spread of the virus.

· guidance can be found on the government website here.
Wash your hands
The World Health Organisation advises that all should wash their hands properly to avoid spread of Coronavirus. WHO advise that one of the best and most basic protective measures that people can take against the Coronavirus is to wash your hands frequently. On its website, WHO states: ‘Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.’If you have any questions please contact:

Club update
Please be aware that the club will be letting its members know our plans going forward as soon as possible.
Our committee meeting was scheduled for last Monday with our planning and contingency included for discussion. However with an hour and a half to go before the start time of the session, Government advice dictated that we shouldn't meet.
There has been plenty of advice and guidance issued from the various governing bodies we are members of and that is being considered carefully before we make any formal decisions.
So please bear with us a little bit longer.
Stay safe and remember that as a club and team we need to support and be there for one another in the coming weeks.

Volunteers needed
Volunteer riders wanted to help youth section
We would like to have a few senior riders to boost the numbers for some race simulation practice on Friday evenings at the Embankment Athletics Track. We meet on the first and third Friday each month from
6:30 - 7:30 and if we can get a few volunteers we would like to trial a session, and if successful perhaps do these on an occasional basis.
Riders will need to be comfortable riding in close proximity to others in a group from around 12 - 17mph and be good role models for our young riders. The sessions will include riding through and off and practicing
riding to a set plan to enable the youths to practice specific race scenarios.
If you might be interested please let me know and we can work out the most convenient date.
Can you marshall the road race next weekend ? 14th March
The club is looking for some marshalls to help with our round of the NCRA handicaps.
It is next Saturday at Southwick near Oundle. Please let Steve Clarke know your availability.
We'd also like to wish the clubs riders in the event good luck.
Can you West Lothian?
Message from the West Lothian Cycle Circuit:
As you will hopefully know, we are running our £30K #Letsbuildit crowdfunder for the West Lothian Cycle. We are in the last few days of the crowdfunder and we have reached an amazing total of £17,100. However, if we don’t raise the full £30K we can’t collect any of the donations. It would be devasting to have come so far and not be able to collect all the generous pledges raised by nearly 260 supporters of the project. So we are asking for your help!
If you haven't already donated we would really appreciate your support. You can make a donation at www.crowdfunder.co.uk/
These sit alongside our signature print, mug and magnet rewards with exclusive design from world renowned artist Garry Marshall. There are also many rewards
We have also added a new gold level reward for a £1,185 donation. If you sponsor a floodlight you will receive free lifetime use of the circuit, a VIP invite to the opening and an art package! A floodlight will be named after you with your name and message appearing on a plaque on the lamp post.
If you have already donated, thank you! We would be so grateful for any further support you can provide by:
• Liking our Facebook page and share posts so we can reach more people.
• Share details of the crowdfunder http://www.
• Spread the word with your friends and family far and wide – there are still some fantastic rewards to be had
Our three core values for the circuit are:
• Helping people of all ages and abilities improve their physical and mental health.
• A safe environment to increase cycling confidence.
• Creating a more sustainable, healthier, happier and better connected community.
You can find out more about the plans at https://
Watch out for us on STV news this week as we filmed a segment for their evening show all about the West Lothian Cycle Circuit and how it will benefit the whole community, creating a cycling hub in West Lothian.

Friday 6th March
This Friday 6th March we will be at the Embankment Athletic Track from 6:30 - 7:30 and riding on the track with the emphasis on cornering.
It will also be the last of the core conditioning sessions with Yvonne. This week is planned for the youths, but there's no reason why adults can't join in, so if any parents are interested it's your last chance.
Hallam is Champion
David Hallam won the senior club cyclo cross championship last weekend.
Despite the stormy weather Hallam took the win narrowly ahead of Steve Hope.
Ken "Spider" Clarke
Everyone associated with the club and cycling locally were saddened to learn that "Spider" has passed away over the weekend.
This is a sad time for everyone in Fenland Clarion and the National Clarion with Ken being a popular club mate over many decades.
Our thoughts are With Ian, Steve and the family at this time.
